Everyone loves free gaming apps, right? I know I do, but sometimes it can be hard to find the ones worth downloading. Which apps are worth your time? And which are worthless trash? Well don't worry! TechDigest is here to help you choose the best of the best available to iPhone and iPod touch owners. From Punch Quest to Sprinkle, Temple Run 2 to Layton Brothers, we've picked out a game for every iOS skinflint out there.
1. Sprinkler
Sprinkle is a wonderful little game that has you putting
out fires by aiming a fire hose and pressing a red button
to send water flying around your screen. (Pretty sure
there's a dirty joke hidden in here somewhere - Ed)
The controls can become a little fiddly (Here we go again - Ed)
but it doesn't affect the experience much, if at all.
The game has 6 sets of levels with 12 levels in each set,
giving it a lot of content to play with. The in-app purchases
are kept simple with only one option to unlock all the
games levels, for a small fee.
2. Punch Quest
Punch Quest is a manly, run and punch game, that
sees you fly through a procedurally generated set
of tunnels with upgrades, treasure and bosses to
punch. Once you die, you are greeted by a store to
buy upgrades and abilities in using the currency you
earn by punching things in-game. There are no
micro-transactions that are needed to play or beat
the game, but they can speed up your progress if
you're a bit time stricken.
5. Fast & Furious : The Game
3. Dumb Ways To Die
Dumb Ways to Die is a set of micro games where you are given a task to complete within a time limit such as "swat the wasps" and "slide the fork out of the toaster", the zany kind of stuff you'd find in Nintendo's Warioware titles. The game slowly gets increasingly difficult, picking up speed with which you have to complete challenges until you run out of lives. The game has an educational value too, designed to promote safety around trains, and remains a very fun game for when you have a few minutes to kill.
4. Fruit Ninja vs Skittles
Fruit Ninja vs Skittles is a very good free version of the game Fruit Ninja, replacing some of the melons and cherries with Skittles branding to keep your tightfisted hand out of your pocket. The game has one very simple game mode which involves you slicing the fruit and the skittles to acquire points and multipliers, all whilst avoiding bombs that the game will throw to try and slip you up. The game includes a few in-app purchases to buy the original game and such, but nothing too intrusive to spoil your fun.
5. Fast & Furious : The Game
Fast And Furious: The Game is a good racing game with
an interesting game mode known as "Heist" where you
are tasked with escaping the police after robbing a bank
and good customization options for your cars. The cars
handle well and the racing is very fun. They have added
in "crews" which are teams for you to race in with your
friends and enter tournaments. This gives the game a lot
of replayability, with the multiplayer giving you a lot of
ways to progress. The in-app purchases give you ways
to speed up your progress, such as buying new cars and
parts, and are totally avoidable if you wish.
6. Temple Run 2
Temple Run 2 is the sequel to one of the most popular games to ever be released on IOS. It follows the same formula as the other games, where you swipe up to jump, down to slide, and tilt left and right to move along the screen, avoiding a crazy monkey god out to tear apart our Indiana Jones-like protagonist. The main objective of the game is to collect coins to buy upgrades that help you progress through the game. The in-app purchases are used to buy those same coins mostly, helping to speed up your progress for those that don't have the time to play for hours on end.
7. Metal Storm : Aces
MetalStorm: Aces is a fighter jet game where you fly your plane through the sky in a selection of 3 game modes. The first is campaign where you are pitted against computer controlled fighter jets, and must accomplish objectives to win. The second is a versus mode where you fight fellow players to control the skies. The third game mode is co-op where you fight alongside other players up against the computer controlled planes. The game features in-app purchases to purchase other planes, plane skins and weapons. You control your plane using either your phone's accelerometer or using an on-screen controller.
8. The Simpsons : Tapped Out
The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a fairly enjoyable game where you build your own Springfield by placing roads, houses and businesses. You also take control of your favourite characters from The Simpsons shows, asking them to complete tasks for in-game currency that can then be used to buy more buildings. The game does however feature a lot of in-app purchases; though the game is completely playable without them, be prepared to spend many hours grinding away at mundane challenges to unlock special buildings and new characters without dipping into your savings.
9. Trials Xtreme 3
Trials Xtreme 3 is a fast paced, 2D motorcycle racing game. The levels in the game are quirky and can be very difficult at times, using a realistic (and often hilarious) physics system to propel you around each track. It also includes a multiplayer racing mode which is very fun to play against a friend. The game has a lot of content included for a free game. It can become very addictive with the simplicity of the game, making it very accessible and fun to play on the train or bus, but be prepared for some...ahem... 'Trial' and error on some of the tougher tracks.
10. Layton Brothers : Mystery Room
Layton Brothers : Mystery Room is a puzzle game from the creators of the Professor Layton series on the Nintendo consoles. It is a murder mystery, CSI type game where you are given a set of clues and tasked with finding out what has happened in the case before prosecuting someone. The game has a very interesting plot like most other Layton games making it very fun to progress in.
Thats all for today , Thanks guys !
